Adam FerNANDES

Owner, Head Coach

When I discovered Crossfit in 2006 I found my passion. Since then, I spent nearly every moment of my spare time seeking perfection in movement. As I continued to develop as an athlete, I found that helping others gave me just as much excitement as performing the workouts.

Now, there are two things that bring me more joy than just about anything else. Seeing a person achieve what they never thought was possible, and seeing those people unite in an effort to make themselves better. My desire is to provide the best possible experience to each and every individual who walks through Turbine’s doors.

Sports have always been a part of my life. As a former gymnast and collegiate volleyball player, I was looking for ways to continue to compete in sports. My husband introduced me to CrossFit in 2012 and I have been completely addicted ever since. I love the camaraderie and competitive spirit CrossFit creates. My gymnastics and volleyball skills came back in to play, and I love the team atmosphere and competing with others.

I am passionate about helping people move well, improve their skills, and achieve their goals. I am grateful to be working with such an amazing community of people at Turbine!!

Athletics have played a major role in my life from childhood through today. I was a three sport athlete all 4 years at Lake Park High School playing Football, Basketball and Baseball. After taking a 4 year hiatus from sports in college I was reintroduced to competitive athletics through CrossFit. My competitive fire was ignited once again. CrossFitting since 2012, I have embraced the entire life style that goes along with it. There is no other fitness program/sport that has such a strong sense of community.

Being able to coach and help others see the the benefit CrossFit can have on your entire life is the next great step in my fitness journey.

I am a West Chicago native that grew up as a multi-sport athlete in my younger years. Soccer became my focus and one of my passions throughout high school. I am a 2-time captain of both the Wheaton Academy soccer team and the Wheaton College Thunder Men’s team. I found CrossFit in the spring of 2010 and as a college goalkeeper I found it extremely beneficial as a strength and conditioning program and used the CrossFit methodology as a basis for my offseason training. Not long after I earned my level 1 trainer certification and began to get more involved with coaching the new and upcoming sport. CrossFit has developed into a true passion for me. I come from a huge sports family and we enjoy skiing, snowboarding, paddle boarding, biking, you name it and we probably do it. The community of CrossFit is something that is unmatched, you meet countless like minded people and develop some life-long friends.

Fitness has always been a great passion of mine, my background being in wrestling that brought out my competitive spirit, after school there needed to be an outlet. I found myself attempting CrossFit in a small room a few buildings down from Turbine. With The Open right around the corner the year of 2016, I signed up and called to drop in one day. After walking in the door, I found myself never wanting to leave. Being a part of this community sparked my competitive fire and the coaching staff gave me a purpose to pursue fitness. Now as a part of the staff I look to give the incredible experience I got when I walked in these doors. To see an individual progress and accomplish things they never thought possible further drives my passion. As I continue to grow and gain knowledge of this sport, I hope to influence our members to be the best version of themselves.

After years of Globo gym type workouts including back/bicep and chest/tricep lifting, coupled with endless hours calorie blasting on the elliptical and stair master, I mistakenly thought I was fit…until I found CrossFit. After hearing and reading about the successes numerous military and law enforcement members were having with CF and its functional applications, I took an intro class and have been hooked ever since. Initially I tried to follow mainsite workouts on my own, but I never understood the importance of the encouragement and comraderie of fellow box members and coaches until later becoming a member of a western suburb box. I continue to broaden my knowledge and experience regarding functional fitness, striving to perfect form, technique, and agility to greaten my own general physical preparedness in and out of my career in law enforcement.
